Wow November was…a month. How are we doing?
So every morning after breakfast, my mom tells the Google home in the living room at my parents’ house, which is linked to her YouTube account, to play music. Sometimes it’s hymns, sometimes classical music, lately it’s been Christmas music. Last time I was visiting, she told me that the home in my bedroom picks up on her voice and starts playing music too.
But what she doesn’t realize is, I already knew this because my home is linked to my Spotify account, which will pop up on my phone whenever it’s being used. So I’ll be at my apt when I see that “White Christmas” is playing in my room at my parents’ house, and then sometimes I’ll switch the playing device to my phone. It feels like I’m listening along with her, albeit on our separate accounts and different auto-generated playlists.
It makes me feel like we’re still spending the morning together even while we’re not physically together. While I’ve been very fortunate to be able to see my parents within an hour or two since moving back to the East Coast for four years now, I do miss them and oft wonder what they’re up to.

I spent a lot of time this month wondering how to do various things:
- How do you become a morning person without becoming insufferable?
- How do you share more about Jesus without sounding preachy?
- How do you get more into shooting on film without becoming pretentious?
- How do you talk on the phone for hours with someone (kind and handsome) without starting to catch feelings?
The answer to at least one of the above questions (I plead the Fifth) is, you really just can’t help it…
