“Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards.”

Hello friends,

We’ve made it to the end of stick season! I’m home for Holy Week and drove around running errands today. Even amid the unseasonable cold spell, my hometown is a sight for sore eyes – the burgeoning white and pink magnolias, forsythias and daffodils punctuating the landscape with bright yellow. Some things on my mind lately:

  • Why do we try to invalidate our grief? Whether it’s the loss of a pet, a relationship that never came to fruition, a relative passing who we wish we had known better, grief is grief, and it is valid.
  • Is there a word for the happy/sad feeling of wishing someone a full and happy life, even if that life doesn’t really involve you? It’s like the ending of Spiderman: No Way Home, and I’m Tom Holland, walking away without saying the speech I prepared. As much as I’d like to be brave, it feels selfish of me to interrupt someone’s happiness with my silly feelings.
  • I appreciate the people who pull me into things to do together, and (perhaps even more so) who also push me to do things on my own that I’m nervous about, like socializing lol.

Hope you are doing well (body + mind + spirit). If it’s been awhile, I hope our lives intersect soon.

-M
